NATIONAL LABORATORIES

The Institute maintains research relationships with DOE national laboratories whose programs overlap division-relevant physics. Priority facilities:

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

Magnetic confinement fusion, plasma diagnostics, stellarator optimization. Directly relevant to Stellar Furnace confinement programs and Stage 2 plasma physics curriculum.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Neutron science, isotope production, advanced materials characterization. Relevant to Metallic Sciences alloy development and Antimatter Production target design.

Sandia National Laboratories

Z-pinch facilities, pulsed power, inertial confinement. Z Machine produces 26 MA, 100 ns pulses — the parameter space relevant to dense plasma focus research.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

National Ignition Facility, weapons physics, computational physics. NIF achieved ignition in December 2022 — the first net energy gain from inertial confinement fusion.

Also monitored: Ames, Argonne, Brookhaven, Fermilab, Idaho, LBNL, Los Alamos, SLAC.

CERN

CERN operates the only facilities capable of producing and trapping antimatter in measurable quantities. The Antiproton Decelerator and ELENA ring supply antiprotons to experiments (ALPHA, AEGIS, GBAR) that inform Antimatter Production storage and annihilation research. The Future Circular Collider study addresses magnet technology at the frontier relevant to Highfield Magnetics.
